Description: Located in the Laguna del Tigre National Park, Estación Las Guacamayas is a remote research and conservation station offering an extraordinary birding experience. This multi-day tour takes you from Antigua Guatemala through the Petén region, where you will explore pristine lowland rainforests, rivers, and wetlands. With expert guides, you’ll have the chance to spot elusive and colorful species, while also learning about conservation efforts to protect the critically endangered Scarlet Macaw.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival & Birding in Antigua

  • Arrival in Antigua Guatemala and check-in at hotel
  • Afternoon birding in nearby reserves for highland species like the Pink-headed Warbler and Bushy-crested Jay
  • Welcome dinner and trip briefing

Day 2: Flight to Flores & Birding in Yaxhá

  • Early morning flight from Guatemala City to Flores
  • Transfer to Yaxhá National Park for a full day of birdwatching and Mayan ruins exploration
  • Target species include Black Catbird, Slaty-tailed Trogon, and Bat Falcon
  • Sunset birding from a temple viewpoint
  • Overnight in Flores

Day 3: Transfer to Estación Las Guacamayas & River Birding

  • Morning transfer by road and boat to Estación Las Guacamayas
  • Welcome orientation and introduction to the reserve

  • Mid-morning breakfast and rest

Day 5: Birding & Return to Flores

  • Sunrise birding at key observation points
  • Boat tour along the river for last sightings of wetland and forest species
  • Late morning transfer back to Flores
  • Evening flight back to Guatemala City or overnight in Flores
