Description: Los Cuchumatanes, located in western Guatemala, offer a unique birding experience in a rugged and remote mountain range. This multi-day tour takes you from Antigua Guatemala through diverse cloud forests, pine-oak woodlands, and alpine meadows, home to an array of regional endemics and specialty species. Alongside expert guides, you’ll have the chance to observe elusive warblers, jays, and hummingbirds, while also learning about the rich indigenous heritage of the area.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival & Birding in Antigua
- Arrival in Antigua Guatemala and check-in at hotel
- Afternoon birding in nearby reserves for highland species such as Bushy-crested Jay and Rufous Sabrewing
- Welcome dinner and trip briefing
Day 2: Transfer to Los Cuchumatanes & Initial Birding
- Morning drive to Los Cuchumatanes with birding stops along the way
- Afternoon birding along high-altitude trails for regional endemics such as Black-capped Siskin and Guatemalan Pygmy-Owl
- Overnight in a local eco-lodge
Day 3: Full Day Birding in High-Altitude Habitats
